Your obligations, explained

What the rules ask of you. In plain English.

Commercial vessel operators in New Zealand and Australia must run a documented safety system that matches their vessels and operation. We help you understand those duties, put the right system in place and keep it current.

New Zealand · MOSS & MTOP

Under Maritime NZ’s Maritime Operator Safety System (MOSS), commercial operators hold a Maritime Transport Operator Plan (MTOP) under Maritime Rules Part 19. The MTOP sets out how your operation identifies hazards, manages risk, maintains vessels and keeps crew competent.

  • Gap review of your current MTOP or paperwork
  • New MTOPs written for your vessels and operating limits
  • Procedures, maintenance, crew competence and drill records
  • Preparation for MOSS entry, renewal and Maritime NZ audit
  • Audit findings and corrective actions closed out

Australia · AMSA National System

Domestic commercial vessels operate under AMSA’s National System. Marine Order 504 requires a safety management system (SMS) for each vessel, built on a risk assessment of the operation and supported by crewing decisions and records.

  • Plain-English guide to what Marine Order 504 means for you
  • Vessel-specific SMS, including the simplified SMS where eligible
  • Risk assessments, operational and emergency procedures
  • Fatigue risk management and drug and alcohol policies
  • Preparation for AMSA inspection, with records kept current

Who we help

From one boat to a growing fleet.

Owner-operators

You run the boat, the bookings and the books. We translate the rules into plain steps, do the heavy lifting on the paperwork and leave you with a system you can run from the wheelhouse.

Operators facing an audit

An audit or inspection on the calendar, or findings to close out. We review what you have, fix the gaps and organise the evidence so you walk in prepared.

New and growing operations

Starting out, adding a vessel or taking over an existing business. We set up a system that fits from day one and scales as the operation grows.

Organisations with vessels

Councils, utilities, research and community groups operating boats as part of wider work. We build systems that sit cleanly alongside your existing health and safety framework.
